I saw Jan's comment and thought I would explain a little more. Many of you know John ran the Alaska Marathon with his friend Carolyn in 1998. They ran it for a friend who went to Getttysburg who lost her battle with Leukemia. John and Carolyn ran for Team In Training(TNT). It is so surreal knowing that 6 years later we would need the help of The Leukemia Society and TNT.
All TNT participants wear a purple singlet or t-shirt for marathons or cycling. John and Jan were planning on participating in The Tahoe Ride together this year. Jan will be wearing the TNT singlet John wore on May 17th for the Cleveland Marathon. It does fit Jan I saw him put it on! He is very honored to be wearing it for his dear friend John.

Buzz and I lived at The Scissors Palace during the Alaska Marathon Era!! A lot of great Buskirk times that aren't brought up!!!!
Jess - To build on the marathon memory, I'll set the scene... John sprinting by me laughing and giving me crap as I went my turtle pace and him just jogging quickly by. It was a tough course but typically, John just took it by storm. I did catch up to him at the end and helped him finish since he was a bit too confident and skipped the water stops - but that's what friends (especially those who carry water) are for. Also typical, the day before we had gone on a glacier cruise and the boat broke - before we even really saw a glacier up close, so John made friends with this older couple and their mother who were on the boat and when we had no place to go and hours to wait for the train back to Anchorage, his new friends drove us back and took us sightseeing the whole way. Being from NY I would never have talked to "strangers" but not John...we spent the day with this random family who just had us jump in the car and off we went. I got Christmas cards from that couple for a couple of years. John probably did too... I'm sure none of this surprises you but I hope it makes you smile. Carolyn
